Electricity is essential for daily life but can be hazardous if handled improperly. Consumers are advised to follow the safety precautions below to prevent accidents and ensure safe usage of electrical installations.

1. Safety at Home
- Do not touch electrical switches or appliances with wet hands.
- Ensure proper earthing and use of certified wiring and equipment.
- Avoid overloading sockets with multiple devices.
- Replace damaged wires, plugs, or switches immediately.
- Keep electrical appliances away from water sources.
- Turn off the main supply before attempting minor repairs.
- Keep children away from exposed wiring and sockets.
2. Outdoor Electrical Safety
- Stay away from fallen or sagging power lines — treat them as live.
- Do not touch electric poles, transformers, or distribution boxes.
- Avoid flying kites, using long metal rods, or working near overhead lines.
- Maintain safe clearance when constructing buildings near power lines.
- Report damaged lines or sparks immediately.
3. During Rain, Flood, or Snow
- Avoid contact with electrical installations in water-logged areas.
- Switch off the main power supply if flooding occurs.
- Do not attempt to restore supply yourself.
- Report hazards to the nearest office or helpline.
4. For Farmers & Workers
- Maintain safe distance between agricultural equipment and overhead lines.
- Ensure pump sets and motors are properly earthed.
- Never climb poles or attempt unauthorized connections.
5. Electrical Fire Safety
- Use appropriate fire extinguishers (CO₂ or dry powder).
- Never use water on electrical fires.
- Disconnect power supply if safe to do so.
6. In Case of Electric Shock
- Do not touch the victim directly if still in contact.
- Switch off the power source immediately.
- Use a dry non-conductive object to separate them.
7. Reporting Hazards
Please report the following hazards to KPDCL immediately:
Fallen lines Damaged poles Sparking transformers Exposed wiring
